Mothers and daughters

Do you feel there is societal pressure for mothers and daughters to be super close? Why or why not? If yes, where do you think this pressure comes from? Do you think this hypothetical pressure could be damaging to the relationship? For those here who have daughters, do you feel any sort of pressure to be closer to them than perhaps any male children you may have? And finally, how do you feel about your mother?
